Corporate Portraits in Los Angeles for Virgin Galactic
What Makes Unique Environmental Corporate Portraits
On my first corporate portrait assignment for the Los Angeles offices of Virgin Galactic (The Space Ship Company), I faced a demanding workload that kept evolving throughout the day. After shooting large groups and technology, the client asked me to create corporate headshots of astronauts, managers, and engineers.
Several of my clients were waiting around to see what I came up with, so instead of using strobe lights, I improvised and took a chance and opened the 50-foot-tall bay doors of the airplane hangar, and the natural light was just so beautiful that I had to used to use it to illuminate my subjects. Then I shaped it with black flats and reflectors to create compelling executive portraits. So Beautiful lighting and authentic expressions are what make unique corporate headshots, and my clients were thrilled with the results.
Shifts in Corporate Photography
I have been shooting corporate headshots all of my career, but the influence of lifestyle photography has reshaped how clients view corporate portraits. My best clients now ask for natural light, authentic expressions, and portraits that blur the line between headshot and lifestyle imagery.
This is a calling forth of my history as a photojournalist and an evolution in the aesthetics of business photography, where clients seek images that are lit with ambient light.
Photography Assistants on Corporate Assignments
When I shoot Corporate portraits, I need an assistant. While lighting gear is lighter today, photographers working solo risk slowing down production and missing small but important details. An assistant helps maintain a seamless workflow, which is critical when executives are waiting.
Clients who understand this — particularly communications professionals in large corporations — recognize the value of efficiency and invest in production support. It allows me to deliver a smooth experience while focusing on the creative work.
If your company is seeking authentic corporate headshots in Los Angeles, natural executive portraits, or large-scale corporate photography projects, I’d be glad to help.
