Documentary Project-Cuba

The boys I came across in Cuba were wild, natural, open, authentic, and without self-consciousness; like the angel girls in Mexico. With some retrospect, I could see something of my childhood in them and that with time and space, most kids revert to their true natures. They did not need lessons. It made me happy to be around them.

I asked if I might photograph them and one of the boys said, “Why not?”. I was expecting resistance or suspicion but I received only openness to my request. I expected posturing but received only genuine interest and curiosity from a stranger making the request.

Once again, I was wandering and found something of beauty I was not seeking. I was just open to receiving it.
