Flora Photography Los Angeles
The purpose of these images is to slow me down, to force me to see past the mundane to form and detail. It is an exercise in seeing. I am not a flora photographer really, I like the practice of slowing down to see what I would not otherwise see. Not being a flora photographer, I am free to exercise an unconventional perspective from my normal perspective as a commercial photographer.
This all began when my wife suggested I shoot pictures with my iPhone at a local botanical garden. I initially thought that shooting with my iPhone was for amateurs and nothing interesting would come of it, but I did it anyway and the results were really interesting, so I began a thought experiment. What if I went back to wander the gardens with my iPhone to see what I could see, but then shot the same thing with my Nikon on a tripod? These images are a result of that experiment. The images were shot mainly during my wanderings in Los Angeles and in gardens in the Northwest.
