Architectural Photography Los Angeles

Ed Carreon is a seasoned architectural and interior design photographer specializing in showcasing commercial architectural photography throughout Los Angeles and Southern California.

He shoots institutional, residential, and commercial architecture for custom homebuilders, architects, interior designers, commercial developers, engineering firms, and industrial clients.

His story-driven approach combines client insights with artful nuance to amplify their voice, elevate their brand, and set them apart through meaningful impressions. He always tells the story of a space and the people who inhabit it keeping in mind the architect’s or designer’s intentions.

About Ed Carreon, Architctural Photographer

Ed’s interest in architecture comes from his admiration of the grand masters of space like Antoni Gaudí, Frank Loyd Wright, Mies Van der Rohe, Frank Gehry, and Renzo Piano. Also, from his early experience in Mexican colonial churches with their gothic ceilings and towering presence, around which radiated communities. Later, his exploration of caves canyons, and mountains further shaped his interest in human spaces; especially the interiors of institutional and working spaces and their relationship to light.

He sees architecture as a living landscape like mountains within which people live. Indeed his own natural landscape and flora photography informs his approach to architectural photography. He pays attention to details, the big picture, and how people fit into it. He sees the details that go into creating the landscape the architect has envisioned.

He is most interested in institutional and commercial buildings and how natural light interacts with a space. He uses lighting and post-production to harmonize lighting values; not to override or replace the architect's vision. He Highlights the precision where architecture and design intersect, resulting in the functional spaces and intentional details that bring the modern workplace to life.

For Ed, the natural light is the light the architect has envisioned for space. So if he is photographing a workspace, with lots of natural window light he will shoot and post-produce the images so the images are faithful to the vision of the architect.

Conversely, if he is photographing a nightclub, he will stay faithful to the architect’s lighting design and use light to complement the architect’s vision.

Whether you have a single-story commercial building or a downtown skyscraper, he can photograph your exteriors and interiors with intention and insight.

Process

Ed Begins by listening closely to the architect’s or designer’s intentions and proposes ideas and logistical considerations so there is a frictionless workflow.

Afterward, he scouts the location to plan the photography and eliminate unexpected problems on the day of the shoot day, where he usually brings an assistant to help with lighting when necessary, and rangling people when the client wants to show a populated space.

He usually shoots to an iPad or laptop and carries lights and scrims or whatever else the space needs to exhibit the architect’s or designer’s vision.

He handles all post-production and then shows the client semi-final selections
